Color and Monochrome Cameras for High-Resolution Imaging

Whether your application requires ultra-high resolution analysis for scientific imaging or flat-field normalization for remote aerial sensing, MegaPlus imaging systems deliver a range of features suited to your needs. These systems are backed by an extensive history as a word-leading designer of high-speed, superior quality cameras.

The MegaPlus family provides outstanding image detail with up to 16 megapixels of resolution and maximum frame rates of 30 frames-per-second. The core of the system is a powerful FPGA-based camera controller. The MegaPlus controller provides real time intelligence for each camera head such as: pixel defect mapping, flat field correction, gamma control, color space conversion, bit windowing, and more, with a high speed digitized data stream from imaging heads, which minimize heat, noise, and vibration. Typically used in machine vision, medical imaging, and remote sensing, MegaPlus cameras come in several different designs, including:

MegaPlus EC16000


This special camera design features resolutions as high as the MegaPlus ES 16000 system (4872 x 3248 or 16 mega-pixel resolution), but is unique in that its sensor is actively cooled to 5 ºC below ambient temperature, without the need for a fan. This fan-free design reduces the risk of vibration within the camera. The design also separates and isolates the camera’s primary electronics from the sensor cooling path, which maximizes cooling efficiency to yield true 12 bits-per-pixel. The use of active Peltier cooling significantly reduces dark noise and thermal drift, making the EC16000 a perfect solution for demanding scientific and industrial applications. For applications requiring additional cooling, an optional external fan is available which cools to 12 ºC below ambient.

The design comes in three sensor grades (0, 1, and 2), with class 0 sensors available for the most demanding imaging applications.

MegaPlus EP16000


This unique 16-megapixel interline-transfer camera head and controller design delivers outstanding resolutions of 4872 x 3248 (color or mono), making it an excellent choice for flat panel inspection, ophthalmology, document scanning and scientific imaging applications.

It also supports up to 12-bit monochrome images or 36-bit color images at 3 fps for full resolution, and over 9 fps with 4x4 binning. The design comes in three sensor grades (0, 1, and 2), with class 0 sensors available for most demanding imaging applications..

This passively cooled, high resolution 11 megapixel digital camera is uniquely designed to separate and isolate the camera’s primary electronics from the sensor cooling path resulting in true 12-bits per pixel at virtually any operating temperature. Using passive cooling, both dark noise and thermal drift are significantly reduced, making the camera the perfect solution for the most demanding scientific and industrial applications.

MegaPlus ES4020


This design delivers superior resolution at 2048x2048 with a 4-megapixel interline-transfer camera head and controller. The 4020 offers both CameraLink and Firewire interfaces selectable via MegaPlus Central control software, while supporting up to 12-bit monochrome images or 36-bit color images at 15 frames-per-second for full resolution and over 30 fps with 4x4 binning. This system is ideal for medium resolution machine vision and scientific imaging applications. MegaPlus II ES4020 is ideal for a broader range of applications, including machine inspection, aerial photography, and ophthalmic imaging.

MegaPlus ES3200


This design delivers superior resolution at 2184x1472 (monochrome) and consists of a 3.2-megapixel full-frame camera head and controller. It supports up to 12-bit monochrome images at 2.9 frames-per-second for full resolution, while offering both CameraLink and Firewire interfaces selectable via MegaPlus Central control software. Its amazing image quality and flexibility make it perfect for most ophthalmology, semiconductor instpection, metrology, and scientific imaging applications.

MegaPlus ES2020 and ES2093

These systems provide resolutions of 1600x1200 (MegaPlus ES2020) and 1920x1080 (MegaPlus ES2093) with a 2-megapixel interline-transfer camera head and controller. They also offer both CameraLink and Firewire interfaces selectable via MegaPlus Central control software, while supporting up to 12-bit monochrome images or 36-bit color images at 30 frames-per-second for full resolution and over 82 fps with 4x4 binning. Both systems are excellent for most machine vision and scientific imaging applications. MegaPlus ES2093 is ideal for a broader range of applications, including video production, traffic enforcement, and aerial photography, since it yields HDTV 1080P image resolution (1920x1080 pixels).

MegaPlus ES1602 and ES1603


These imaging heads offer a resolution of 1536x1024 (monochrome) and contain a 1.6-megapixel full-frame CCD sensor. Through the MP controller the heads support both CameraLink and Firewire interfaces, selectable via MegaPlus Central Control Software. They also support up to 12-bit monochrome images at 6.2 frames-per-second for full resolution. While both are excellent systems for ophthalmology, astronomy, and scientific imaging applications, MegaPlus ES1603 achieves higher quantum efficiency by utilizing on-sensor microlenses.
